Brian Kaplan, MD

General Surgery
Vice Chair of Surgery Education & Program Director for General Surgery Residency Program: Dr. Brian J. Kaplan

The curriculum in surgery is comprehensive to include didactic, research and clinical training. The curriculum is highly interactive among residents, faculty and administration. The program graduates caring physicians who are highly competent technicians fully versed in the science, which subtends surgical practice. The resources of the department include not only our faculty and extensive clinical environments but also teaching laboratories, research facilities and advanced computer facilities. Learn more

Robert Strauss, DDS

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Program Director: Dr. Robert A. Strauss

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency has been approved by the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association and other appropriate accrediting agencies since its inception. Those residents who complete the four-year curriculum fulfill all the prerequisites and requirements of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and are eligible for the board's examination. Andrea L. Pozez, M.D.

Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Program Director: Dr. Andrea L. Pozez

The Plastic Surgery Division provides training in cosmetic (aesthetic) surgery as well as reconstructive surgery and hand surgery. We continue to provide a comprehensive experience in cosmetic surgery with laser surgery where indicated. In this program, we work very closely with dermatologists, head and neck surgeons, orthopedists, surgical oncologist, and other specialties. Learn more

Harry Koo, MD

Urology
Program Director: Dr. B. Mayer Grob

The Urology Residency Program at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia Hospitals is a five-year teaching program (PGY-1 surgery internship plus PGY 2-5 of urology residency) that encompasses all phases of adult and pediatric urology, leading to American Board of Urology certification eligibility.

Two residents are accepted into the training program each year. The Division of Urology is enrolled in the American Urological Association Residency Matching Program (AUARMP) and is accredited by ACGME Residency Review Committee. Learn more
