RESEARCH | TRAUMA,
CRITICAL CARE & EMERGENCY SURGERY
The areas of research
in which a house officer can participate
reflect the clinical interest of the
faculty members.
These
areas include: sepsis,
shock, abdominal compartment syndrome,
trauma, burn injury, nutrition and
gastrointestinal physiology.
Available
approaches include studies of
mediators of the injury response, implication
of free oxygen radicals in tissue
injury, mechanisms of lung injury,
pre-hospital trauma care, trauma resuscitation
and injury prevention.
The International Trauma System Development Program (ITSDP) is dedicated to the ongoing study and development of international systems for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the disease known as Trauma. It is envisioned that this focused effort will lead to the ultimate goal of providing total care to the injured victims in the developing nations through the creation of flexible trauma systems based on the existing resources and the variable injury patterns seen.
