Specific
plans for Residents' research years are
generally developed during the first and second clinical
years. A number of potential funding opportunities are available.
Clinical Research Projects:
Current Laboratory Research | Dr. Harry Bear
Adjuvant and reoadjuvant treatment
of breast cancer, with major participation
in the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast
and Bowel Project (NSABP).
Treatment
for locally advanced and high risk
breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancer,
(NSABP for colorectal), use of cryotherapy and RFA
for hepatic neoplasms for breast tumor, and immunotherapy, novel imaging modalities.
In
addition to active involvement in the
NSABP, the Division of Surgical Oncology
collaborates with the other non-surgical
oncology divisions for patient recruitment
to clinical trials conducted by other
cooperative groups and industry trials. The trainees at
all levels are encouraged to learn about
the conduct of clinical trials.
The Division of Surgical Oncology receives
clinical research funding from the National
Cancer Institute and through the NSABP Foundation.
