PLASTIC & RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY
Welcome
to the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgery at the Virginia Commonwealth
University Health System.
We
are an internationally recognized group
of board certified plastic and reconstructive
surgeons and researchers with extensive
training and experience in all aspects
of plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Our commitment to you as a patient
involves thorough patient care, from
the initial consultation through comprehensive
post-operative care and follow up.
Our group addresses
not only cosmetic surgery and aesthetic
surgical procedures but also addresses
patients who need reconstructive surgery
as a result of disease, congenital malformation,
or tragic accident. Our Center for Cleft & Craniofacial Care offers
multidisciplinary care for patients with
craniofacial birth anomalies and our Wound
Healing Center offers
comprehensive care for individuals suffering
from non-healing wounds.
In addition, the
VCU Evans-Haynes Burn Center serves as a regional
resource for the care of acute burns
as well as the reconstructive needs
of burn survivors and has the capacity
to provide care for people injured
as a result of fire, chemicals, scalds,
and electrical injuries.
The
decision to have surgery is not a minor
one. Every effort is made to ensure
that each of our patients is comfortable
with his or her decision to undergo cosmetic
or reconstructive surgery. Not every
consult will lead to surgical intervention,
and alternatives, when appropriate,
will be discussed.

in the country with emphasis on wound
healing, microsurgery, nerve physiology,
craniofacial growth and fetal wound
healing.
TRAINING PROGRAMS
(Residency Program)
The Division
of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
at Virginia Commonwealth University's
Medical College of Virginia Campus
prides itself on having one of the
best, well-balanced three-year Plastic
Surgery Residency programs available.
The
areas of trauma, craniofacial surgery,
maxillofacial surgery, hand surgery,
microsurgery, aesthetic surgery, breast
surgery and pediatric plastic surgery
(with an international traveling component)
comprise this very diverse program.
Rotations
include those at VCU's MCV Hospitals,
the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Administration
Medical Hospital (MVAMC), a joint hand
rotation between plastic surgery and
orthopedic surgery, utilizing the expertise
of all those doing hand surgery in the
Richmond community, and a community plastic
surgery rotation, which includes
the Children’s Hospital.
Intern
applicants will be considered for a combined
program of general and plastic surgery,
which will lead to board eligibility
in plastic surgery with a training period
of six years. An option will exist for
a resident to spend an additional two
years in our laboratory of tissue repair. For more information on the Plastic
Surgery Residency Program, click
